Street Scripts, Video Installation, 2011/12 Video Loop (DV): single channel, color, sound, 2:40 min In a fixed camera position, the video shows a small section of the boardwalk in Venice Beach, California. While in the foreground cyclists and joggers cross the image in very regular succession, two policemen appear in the background, strolling along the hilly lawn and stopping briefly in order to inspect the traffic on the Front Walk. In addition, police car sirens gradually emerge in the off, referring to conflicts beyond the homogeneous, idyllic space in front of the camera. Another sound, which appears to originate from the area behind the camera, can be made out as the shaking of spray cans, creating a connection to the graffiti on the trunks of the palm trees. The different elements of the video offer an only minimal, subtle narrative on the edge of perceptibility. The looped video is shown as a projection measuring up to 5 x 7 feet.
