Video (DV), color, sound, 7:12 min, 2005

Despite the high noise level, people on a loading dock in Southern Spain are constantly on the telephone. Many of the truck drivers use the site as a sort of stage, where they present themselves through their gestures. The camera examines the gestures and habits of the drivers, dealing with them as societal traits. The serial character of the footage and the rhythmic editing are references to the way the global market creates time pressures. The video rhythmically orchestrates the superimposed movements of camera, men, and machines.
The video is shown either as part of a film program or as a video installation in an exhibition space. As an installation, the projected image measures about 5 x 7 feet. The sound is set at a rather high volume in order to convey the noise level that prevails on the site in the video.
